MACOMB – David R. Turner, age 68, of Macomb, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012. Mr. Turner was stricken at home and taken to Claxton-Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg.

Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Sunday, January 29th from 12:00-3:00pm. His funeral service with military honors will follow on Sunday at 3:00p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. James Warrington and the Gouverneur American Legion officiating.

David was born on March 9, 1943 in Scranton, PA to the late Edward Turner, Sr. and Margaret (MacHonary) Turner. He grew up in Connecticut and attended the Bacon Academy in Colchester, CT.

Mr. Turner proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1971. He had received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

David married Alida A. Lewis on September 5, 1970 in the Goshen Church in Lebanon, CT. The couple lived in Connecticut until moving to Macomb in 1991. Mr. Turner worked as the Residential Treatment Coordinator for Waterford Country School for fourteen years. He had also owned two gas stations in Connecticut.

David enjoyed handyman work on his small farms. He was a history buff with an interest in coin collecting and restoring classic cars, including doing his own mechanical and body/painting work. He also enjoyed NASCAR and deep sea fishing.

His survivors include his wife of 41 years, Alida Turner of Macomb; a daughter and her companion, Tammie Turner and Jeff Federkiewicz of Salem, CT; and three sons and their wives, William and Dawn Turner of Macomb, Chester “Chet” and Tamaki Turner of New Orleans, LA, and Thomas “T.J.” and Sandy Goyette of Putnam, CT. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Kathy Turner of Montville, CT and Peggy Turner of Colchester, CT; an aunt, Betty Koes of Colchester, CT; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Edward Turner, Jr. and Thomas Turner.
