GOUVERNEUR — Maple producers and enthusiasts from across the region will gather today for the annual Northern New York Maple Expo at Gouverneur High School.

From getting started with a backwoods sugarbush to current trends in the industry, the event will feature “everything maple,” according to Charles N. Hitchman, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County farm manager and coordinator of the extension’s maple program.

“The idea is to bring newer technology to the producers, to provide education on new theories and research. It’s a good day, for the most novice to the experts, to see other producers and to gather information,” Mr. Hitchman said.

Registration for the expo, hosted by the Gouverneur Central School FFA and co-sponsored by the extension and the St. Lawrence County Maple Producers Association, costs $15, including lunch, and begins at 8 a.m. in the school cafeteria.
