An advertisement for James McClusky, elected to the state Supreme Court in November, won a national award, according to the producers of the ad.

The ad, which uses Mr. McClusky's familial curfew rulings to boost his tough-but-fair bona fides, took home award in the "Republican Local, County or Judicial" category from the Campaigns and Elections annual award ceremony. It was produced by the Casale Group and Capital Public Strategies.

With candidates reluctant to talk about issues, ads in state Supreme Court races are often waged via billboard and TV spot.

Mr. McClusky's ad, posted below, did its job in attracting attention for the candidate. Mr. McClusky's very early curfew (it's still light out at 9 p.m. during the summer) earned a few mentions from Hizzoner on Hizzoner's blog. That's what they call earned media.
