They say all politics is local.
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, are proving that today with a news release that calls for federal border officials to get together with gun-club members in Massena to put together a schedule to use the firing range.
Here's the problem: 200 federal officials are using the Massena Rod and Gun Club's range for required training, leaving 1,200 private members of the club without access for up to eight days at a time.
"Having more federal law enforcement officers protecting our border is a good thing for New York and the North Country, but it also presents new challenges like this one," Mr. Schumer said in a news release. "I will always advocate for well-trained law enforcement, but when the owners and the board of the Massena Gun Club called and asked for our help to sort out an agreement that allows our federal agents access to train, while still permitting the thousands of dues-paying local gun club members time to utilize the range, I was pleased to lend a helping hand."
That's right. A legislator-negotiated get-together to make a copacetic firing-range schedule. Call it the Beretta Summit.
