Family who lost home in Ogdensburg fire needs help

OGDENSBURG — When they lost their home in a fire last month, the LaRose family also lost everything else.

“We managed to get out with just the clothes on our back,” said David E. LaRose Jr., 77, whose home at 915 Lafayette St. was destroyed on the night of Jan. 24.

Mr. LaRose, his wife, Susan M., 69, and their two sons, David E. III, 51, and Thomas, 42, were home when the fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom of the two-story house. No one was injured.

Now the LaRoses, who have moved in with a daughter on Hasbrouck Street, are finding out who their friends are. The ladies auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2936 has started up a donation drive.

“They need everything,” said Treasurer Linda L. Compo. “Clothes, housing, blankets. Everything.”

The auxiliary has established an account for the LaRoses at St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, 333 State St., Ogdensburg, N.Y., 13669.
