Mayor Jeffrey E. Graham has asked the citys Planning Department to draft legislation to require Watertown City Council approval of names for private streets.
The proposed legislation would require a property owner to identify the street name during the site plan or subdivision review process.
Police and fire department officials have voiced concerns about potential 911 dispatch problems when property owners name a street without notifying the city. On Jan. 27, Mr. Graham discussed the situation with council members.
