Pound paces IHC hockey on Senior Night

Lindsey Pound scored one goal and assisted on another to help lead the Immaculate Heart Central hockey team to a Section 3 Division I East victory, 4-2, over Hamilton on Senior Night at the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena.

Alex Lafex supplied two assists, and Jason Reape, Jake Renzi and Jared Pignone also scored. Goalie Grant Chamberlain stopped 25 shots for Immaculate Heart Central (5-12-2, 2-6-2).

Zach Sampson and Alex Brink scored, and Brady Carroll made 25 saves for Hamilton (9-11, 3-7).

ISLANDERS 6, TUPPER LAKE 5 (OT)

Justin Ward netted his third goal of the game with just over two minutes left in overtime as the Islanders held off the Lumberjacks for a Northern Athletic Conference win in Clayton.

Tony Bobkoskie scored twice for the Islander (7-10-1, 5-7-0), including a goal on a penalty shot.

Broyce Guerrette notched two goals and two assists for Tupper Lake (1-17-0, 0-9-0).

MAssena 3, pOTSDAM 2 (ot)

Tyler Young picked up a loose puck in front of Potsdam’s net and scored 2 minutes and 54 seconds into overtime to give the Massena hockey team a win in a Northern Athletic Conference Division I game at Potsdam.

It was the 16th straight win for the Red Raiders (16-2 overall, 12-0 division).

Potsdam (12-6-2, 7-3-2) led 1-0 and 2-1. Chad Varney scored a power-play goal in the first period and Robbie Scott scored another power-play goal in the second. Jake Holcomb and Jayden Wood scored goals for the Red Raiders.

BOYS BASKETBALL

CARTHAGE 66, APW 63 (OT)

Ben Martin generated 15 points as the Comets needed overtime to edge the Rebels in a nonleague game in Pulaski.

Cole Pacella, Josh Britton and Walter Jeter added 11 points apiece for Carthage (4-13).

Jonathan Phoenix netted a game-high 20 points for Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (3-14).

IHC 65, LOWVILLE 48

Jude Whalen led the way with 24 points, including 15 foul shots, as the Cavaliers beat the Red Raiders in a nonleague contest at Lowville.

Robin Massey added 17 points for Immaculate Heart Central (7-10).

Jarrett Mellnitz had 12 points for Lowville (2-15).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

INDIAN RIVER 42, GENERAL BROWN 31

Katie Brierton scored 14 points and picked up six steals to lead the Warriors to a nonleague win over the Lions in Philadelphia.

Kaitlyn Rajner chipped in with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Emily Kuba picked up 10 rebounds to go along with eight points for Indian River (10-7).

Katie Pitkin paced General Brown (8-9) with eight points.

WATERTOWN 53, LOWVILLE 29

Kaitlyn Wheeler and Hannah Levine both scored 12 points as the Cyclones coasted to a nonleague win over the Red Raiders in Lowville.

Katie Aldrich and Ashley Merritt each had seven points for Watertown (7-10).

Chelsea Finn paced Lowville (2-15) with seven points.

BOYS SWIMMING

SOUTH JEFFERSON 106, CARTHAGE 71

Alec Covey captured the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke and contributed to two first-place relays to help lead the Spartans over the Comets at Adams.

John Jamieson claimed the 200 and 500 freestyle and contributed to a relay triumph for South Jefferson (9-5, 8-5).

Aaron O’Neill won the 50 free for Carthage (6-9, 4-8).
