Red Raiders beat Sandstoners for 16th straight win

POTSDAM — Tyler Young picked up a loose puck in front of Potsdam’s net and scored 2 minutes and 54 seconds into overtime to give the Massena hockey team a 3-2 win in a Northern Athletic Conference Division I game Wednesday night.

It was the 16th straight win for the Red Raiders (16-2 overall, 12-0 division).

Potsdam (12-6-2, 7-3-2) led 1-0 and 2-1. Chad Varney scored a power-play goal in the first period and Robbie Scott scored another power-play goal in the second. Jake Holcomb and Jayden Wood scored goals for the Red Raiders.

OFA 3, MALONE 2

Andrew Roddy, Mark Morrow and Austin Morley-Sloan scored goals for the Blue Devils (14-5, 10-3) in a Division II win against Malone in Ogdensburg.

Loghan Harris and Tanner Studlack scored for the Huskies (1-16, 1-11).

SALMON RIVER 2, CANTON 1 (OT)

Chris George scored 2:12 into overtime to give Salmon River (15-2-1, 12-2) a victory over the Golden Bears in an interdivision game in Canton. Oakley Thomas tied the game for the Shamrocks with a goal early in the third period. Cody Moore scored in the second period for Canton (2-14-3, 1-8-2).

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 9, NORTHWOOD JV 3

Matt Myers scored four goals and assisted on another as the Flyers (10-8-2) defeated the Northwood Prep junior varsity team in a nonleague game in Norfolk. Gunnar Brown and Jacob Mayette each scored twice and Josh Tiernan added the other goal for the Flyers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MALONe 61, CANTON 35

Malone (14-3) outscored the Golden Bears 35-13 in the second and third quarters to claim a nonleague win in Canton.

Katie Lavoie led the Huskies with a 20-point effort. Emily Rexford scored 12 points for Canton (9-9).

SALMON RIVER 61, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 36

Abby Kelly scored 16 points with five steals to lead the Shamrocks (14-3, 7-0) past Norwood-Norfolk in a North Division game in Fort Covington.

Karyss Terrance added 12 points and eight rebounds. Mickey Frego, Carlea Weaver and Mikenzie Jock each scored eight for the Flyers (1-16, 0-7).

MADRID-WADDINGTON 55, COLTON-PIERREPONT 15

Brittany Pierce and Bridgett Beldock both scored 13 points to lead the Yellow Jackets past Colton-Pierrepont (2-15, 2-9) in an East Division game in Madrid. Shelby Gausby tallied 10 points for Madrid-Waddington (12-4, 9-2).

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 43, EDWARDS-KNOX 38

The Panthers (6-10, 5-7) used a 14-1 spurt in the third quarter to knock off Edwards-Knox in an East Division game in Parishville.

Jessica Richards led the Panthers with 11 points. Claire Davis and Katie Smith also scored 11 for the Cougars (4-13, 4-8).

BOYS BASKETBALL

MALONE 73, GOUVERNEUR 42

Mitch Gallagher’s 29-point effort sent Malone (9-8, 2-6) past the Wildcats in a Central Division game in Gouverneur.

Austin Dunlavey added 20 points for the Huskies and Mark Horne led the Wildcats (3-13, 0-8) with 10.

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 58, SALMON RIVER 45

Jordan Lashomb scored 14 points to give the Flyers (5-13, 3-4) a win over Salmon River in a North Division game in Fort Covington.

Nick Stewart scored 12 points and Barrett Thomas added 10 for the Flyers. Justin Bigness led Salmon River (0-16, 0-6) with 11 points.
