BOONVILLE — Lewis County sheriff’s deputies charged a Boonville-area man with forging a handgun permit Thursday.

Robert D. Marmon Jr., 52, LaChausse Road, was charged with felony forgery, arraigned before Lowville Village Justice Patricia H. Yarina and released on his own recognizance to await possible grand jury action.

Mr. Marmon was accused of forging an entry on his state pistol permit to include a handgun he purchased out of state and then illegally returned here.

Mr. Marmon’s permit was suspended by Herkimer County Judge John H. Crandall, serving as acting Lewis County judge, pending a revocation hearing, and he voluntarily surrendered all of his handguns to authorities in the interim, deputies said.

Information was forwarded to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department for possible further criminal action.
