Ronald George Cyrus, age 79, of Parishville, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Canton Potsdam Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home.
Mr. Cyrus is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Cyrus; two children, Timothy R. Cyrus and his wife Missy of Jordan, NY and Susan J. (Cyrus) and her husband Jim Souva of Hannibal, NY. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles (Larry) of Parishville and Leon Cyrus and his wife Judy of North Lawrence; one sister, Linda Lamore and her husband Jerry of Waddington and one sister-in-law, Ruth Cyrus. He is also survived by seven granddaughters; one grandson; five great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
He was predeceased by seven brothers, Wayne, James, Neil, Mike, William, Richard, and Lee and one sister, Margaret Smith.
Mr. Cyrus was born on Nov. 9, 1932 in Stockholm, the son of Neil and Doris Nichols Cyrus. Mr. Cyrus joined the Air Force on June 2, 1950 and served during the Korean War until September 11, 1953. He married Betty Cheney on July 31, 1954 at St. Patricks Rectory. He received his honorary degree from Potsdam Central School in 2007.
Mr. Cyrus was a member of the American Legion in Potsdam, and the Amvets of Colton & Parishville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being a carpenter.
