Over the past decade, our educational institutions and our educators have become the whipping boy for all that is wrong in our society. In Albany, the ill-conceived policies of our educational bureaucrats and our governor are not held accountable.
For many years Lowville Academy and Central School has been an institution of academic excellence. In the past 90 years it has been guided by outstanding academics: Leon Davis, Dr. Ken Ford, Robert McNeilly, Bill Wormuth and Ken McAuliffe. All of them great educators.
For the past 32 years, Ken McAuliffe has been an integral part of the educational success at Lowville Academy. From assistant high school principal to elementary principal, back to high school principal and finally superintendent, Kens dedication to Lowville Academy and its community follows in the footsteps of his great predecessors.
There are not enough accolades in our English language to bestow on Ken for his service to Lowville Academy. I will not try to do so. Ken would prefer it that way. Lowville Academy will never replace Ken McAuliffe. Thirty-two years in one school district is a rarity today.
The best way I know to say thank you to Ken is for the Board of Education and the Lowville Academy community to find a successor to Ken who will continue the great educational legacy Ken has left at Lowville Academy. For Ken McAuliffe, that will be thanks enough.
