MASSENA — Funeral Services for Richard A. Cook, 88, of the Kingsley Road Massena will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday (February 13, 2012) at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, with Father Joseph Elliott officiating, Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chateaugay, NY in the spring. The family will be receiving visitors on Monday from 4-7:00 pm prior to the service. Richard died peacefully surrounded by his loving family and hospice on Friday (February 10, 2012).

Surviving him are his wife Florence of 66 years, four daughters Carol and her husband Alan Parkinson of Sparta, VA, Hazel Ellis of Saratoga Springs, NY, Constance Smorol of Syracuse, NY and Donna Jean and her husband John Smorol of Liverpool, NY, a son Gordon and his wife Kelly of Williamson, NY, a sister Harriet Dupree of Batavia, NY, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents Thaddeus and Hazel, a sister Frances Titus, two brothers Donald and Keith, two son-in-laws Thomas Ellis and William Smorol , a great-granddaughter Sydney Parkinson.

Richard was born on February 20,1923 in Belmont, NY the son of Thaddeus and Hazel LaBarre Cook. He graduated from Chateaugay High School. Richard joined the Air Force in 1942 until 1945. He married Florence Cromp July 29, 1946 at the St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay, NY by Rev. Floyd Brown. He entered into an apprenticeship at the ALCOA plant in1947 and worked there until his retirement in 1981. Richard’s main source of enjoyment was spending time with his loving family along with baking, gardening, watching boxing, nascar and going to the family hunting camp fondly known as “Rabbit Inn” that has been enjoyed by the family for 112 years. Richard was a master of all trades and could fix or create anything. He was a member of The Church of the Sacred Heart, Elks Club, American Legion and a life member of Moose.
