Elizabeth Ferreira

Longmeadow, Mass. — Elizabeth “Betty” (Catanzarite) Ferreira, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, great–grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on February 10, 2012.

She was born in Massena, NY to the late Sam and Pasqualina (Spadafore) Catanzarite. She was a 1936 graduate of Massena Memorial High School, Massena, NY. Betty was employed by the former G-Fox Department Store, Enfield, CT as a sales clerk for 11 years and retired in 1981. She was an avid bowler and member of a bowling league at Riverside Lanes for many years.

She leaves her 2 daughters, Judith Simmons and her husband Eugene of Venore, TN, and Mary Bogdanowicz and her husband Fran of Longmeadow; 4 grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Joyce, Jeffrey, Ellen and her husband Bryan, and Daniel; 2 great-grandchildren, Mia and Arianna; 2 sisters, Loretta Pelifian and her husband Max of Massena, NY, Gloria Catania and her husband Toney of Watertown, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 24 years, John M. Ferreira; 2 brothers, Dominic and Samuel Catanzarite and a sister Mae Bronchetti.

Betty’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14th at 11:15a.m. from Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St. East Longmeadow, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow at 12:30p.m. A visiting hour will precede the funeral service from 10:15a.m. to 11:15a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Plymouth MA on Wednesday, February 15th.
