The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced it will sell more than 50 species of trees and shrubs to schools along with public and private landowners through its Saratoga Tree Nursery. The trees are provided to promote erosion control and wildlife habitats.

For public and private landowners, the minimum order is 25 for conifers, hardwoods and wildlife shrubs and 50 for container stock.

The 2012 Tree and Shrub brochure can be found on DEC’s website, www.dec.ny.gov/animals/9395.html, or by calling the Saratoga Tree Nursery at 1 (518) 581-1439.

Schools, which can receive free seedlings for spring planting, can participate in the department’s School Seedling Program by downloading an application from www.dec.ny.gov/animals/9393.html, contacting the Saratoga Tree Nursery or contacting the nearest DEC regional forestry office.
