Whalers continue Privateers losing streak with 6-3 win

DANBURY, Conn. — Alex Goupil bagged a pair of goals as the Danbury Whalers extended the Thousand Islands Privateers losing streak to four games with a 4-3 Federal Hockey League win on Saturday at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Peter Vetri made 29 saves in net for Danbury (22-19), who have beaten the Privateers (29-13-2) for the second time in a week. Andrew Willock added a goal and a pair of helpers for the Whalers.

Tibor Varga and Brad Smulders each netted a goal and an assist for 1000 Islands.

The Privateers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to goals by Smulders and Adam McAllister.

Danbury rattled off four straight goals before Varga netted a power-play goal late in the third period.

It was the second straight 4-3 loss as the Privateers fell to league-leading New Jersey on Friday night.

1000 Islands will host the Delaware Federals for a pair of games game this weekend. Both games have a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
