MASSENA — After eight years of traveling around St. Lawrence County trying to find a home for her business, Linda Dalton has returned to Massena and the St. Lawrence Centre mall.

“I’ve been in business with the Mustard Tin for eight years, and I’ve been in many locations,” Ms. Dalton said. “I’ve been in little towns all over, and I decided I might as well open in the mall.”

The Mustard Tin is a gift shop selling primitive-style decor items such as candles, tarts and tart warmers, signs, garlands, lamps, night lights, wreaths, pottery, stars and potpourri.

“I’ve had it all in my smaller spaces, but this will give people more space to shop,” she said.

Ms. Dalton said the increased space has allowed her to increase her inventory.

While Ms. Dalton’s new location is quickly filling up with merchandise, she said she still has a lot of work to do before opening her new storefront.

“I still need to paint these lights and set up these shelves,” she said. “An electrician is coming, and I still have to put my sign up, but we will be opening on March 1.”

As for how the store got its name, she said that comes from when she was first opening up shop eight years ago.

“When I first opened my business, mustard was, and still is, a popular primitive color, and that’s how I came up with the name,” Ms. Dalton said.
