Croghan area man sentenced to jail over dirt bike theft

LOWVILLE — A Croghan area man was sentenced Friday in Lewis County Court to six months in county jail over a dirt bike theft.

Tyler K. Lashbrooks, 21, of 9768 Erie Canal Road, Croghan, was additionally sentenced to five years’ probation, $1,980 in shared restitution with two other accomplices and $375 in court fees on a charge of fourth-degree grand larceny, to which he pleaded guilty Jan. 13. Judge Charles C. Merrell also issued an 8-year order of protection on the victim’s behalf.

Mr. Lashbrooks was accused of helping to steal a 2001 Honda dirt bike owned by Jeffrey Moroughan in May in the town of Watson.

One of his accomplices, Jordan L. Christman, 21, of 617 Budd Street, Carthage, was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, restitution, 150 hours of community service and $250 in court fees on a charge of petit larceny, to which he pleaded guilty Dec. 9.

Also in Lewis County Court Friday:

Justin A. Ciancetta, 20, of 3519 Marmon Road, Port Leyden, pleaded guilty to second-degree bail jumping. Sentencing on that charge and a third-degree burglary charge, to which he pleaded guilty last March, was set for March 23.

Mr. Ciancetta was initially charged in connection with a break-in on Sept. 25, 2010, at the Sale Barn on East Main Street, Port Leyden. He was later charged with failing to reappear in court for sentencing on the burglary charge.

Nancy A. Clay, 27, of 125 Maywood Terrace, Watertown, was sentenced to three years’ probation and $250 in court fees on a charge of petit larceny, to which she pleaded guilty Dec. 9. She was also ordered to stay out of Walmart stores for the next three years. Ms. Clay was accused of helping to steal unspecified items Aug. 20 from the Lowville Walmart.

Timothy D. Jackson, 34, of 30880 County Route 143, Felts Mills, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated. Sentencing was set for April 23. Mr. Jackson was stopped Aug. 6 on Route 26 in the town of Denmark. His BAC was 0.18 percent, police said.

Michael E. Enslow, 33, of 5656 Maple Ave., Lowville, had his case of third-degree assault, third-degree menacing and two counts of second-degree strangulation adjourned to March 23. He was accused in connection with an alleged July 8 assault on Lori Snyder in the town of Martinsburg.

Kathleen A. Biro, 20, of 6854 McAlpine St., Lyons Falls, had her case of four counts apiece of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and second-degree forgery adjourned to March 23. Ms. Biro was accused of possessing four checks from July 22 to Aug. 1 belonging to Stephen Biro and containing his forged signature.

Ashley T. Boshart, 21, of 6517 Road, Glenfield, had his case of felony aggravated DWI adjourned to March 2. Mr. Boshart was stopped Sept. 8 on Number Four Road in the town of Watson.

Kriss A. Whitney, 45, Steam Mill Road, Harrisville, had a possible trial date set for March 26 in his case of two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and single counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree reckless endangerment and third- and fourth-degree grand larceny.

Mr. Whitney was accused March 24 of stealing a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Thomas Chartrand and repeatedly driving it into the Trackside Tavern on Depot Street in Harrisville, as well as into a 2000 Dodge Dakota being driven by Thomas Manchester on Depot Street. Damage was listed at $12,315.05 to the bar’s door, window, porch and various interior items and at $6,300 to the stolen truck.

Mr. Whitney also faces various charges in St. Lawrence County stemming from a police chase there.
