Much was made of the straw poll results declaring Matthew A. Doheny the favorite of Upstate New York Tea Party activists who attended a Friday mixer in Plattsburgh, but a few other polls took place, too.

Rick Santorum was the preferred presidential candidate, winning 45 percent of the vote, with Mitt Romney taking 27 percent. Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich finished third and fourth, respectively.

Karen M. Bisso easily won the straw poll for the Assembly district seat that is held by Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey, R-Peru. Mrs. Bisso, a former Douglas L. Hoffman volunteer, took in 78 percent of the vote. Ms. Duprey’s vote to approve gay marriage has cost her support among conservatives in the district, which could stretch into St. Lawrence County after redistricting. She was in third place with 6 percent, after David J. Kimmel, who took second place with 16 percent of the straw poll voters even though he hasn’t yet announced his intentions.
