Privateers stumble at home, lose to Dashers
ALEXANDRIA BAY Despite scoring first, the Thousand Islands Privateers dropped their final regular-season home game to Federal Hockey League opponent Danville, 5-2, in front of 328 fans at the Bonnie Castle Arena on Thursday.
Former Privateers forward Brad Townsend started Danvilles comeback with a goal at 7 minutes, 31 seconds of the first period. Matt Cohn and Ryan Stern added one goal apiece as the Dashers (6-32-3 overall) built a 3-1 edge by the periods conclusion.
Cohn pushed it to 4-1 with his second goal, an empty-netter, at 2:45 of the second period. He finished off the hat trick with a goal at 2:20 of the third period.
Brendan Baumgartner and Eddy Martin Whelan scored for Thousand Islands (31-14-2), which finishes the season on the road at Akwesasne today and Saturday.
Thousand Islands has already secured a home playoff series, which will be held the following weekend.
