DCCC dumps on Doheny for brand new Ryan plan

The ink has barely dried on the "Ryan plan," and already it's becoming a political cudgel in the race for the north country's congressional seat.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is out with a news release attacking Republican Matt Doheny for his supposed support for the plan, even though Mr. Doheny hasn't said anything about it.

“Everyone agrees we must cut spending but once again Matt Doheny and his party bosses in Washington are trying to do it on the backs of seniors and middle class families while giving massive tax cuts to Big Oil, companies shipping American jobs overseas, and billionaires,” Josh Schwerin, the DCCC spox, said in an email. “The line is clear: Matt Doheny wants to end Medicare, while Representative Bill Owens wants to strengthen and improve it.”

But — and you can believe me, because I've asked — Mr. Doheny still reviewing Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan's 2013 budget.

"It's a 98-page document, and it's been out less than 24 hours," noted Doheny spokesman Jude Seymour in an electronic message. "Matt intends to give it a careful review."

For the expert take on the Ryan budget, try the Washington Post, the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. Because I haven't read the thing yet either. (Here's a local take, though, from Marc Heller.)

In an interview with Capital Tonight's Liz Benjamin in September, Mr. Doheny discussed the Ryan plan, saying that it didn't address the nation's fiscal crisis quickly enough.
