A few weeks ago, I wrote about Mayor Jeff Graham's effort to re-brand his bar.
The Pearl Street establishment used to have a patriotic motif: bald eagles, American flags, that sort of thing. It was all part of an effort to connect "Fort Pearl" with that other major fort in our area, Fort Drum.
But he's more or less given up on that (personally, I never made the connection), and has gone with a much more personal marketing campaign: "The Mayor's Bar."
And while he's not sure whether the new campaign has increased foot traffic in his bar, the $15 T-shirts he's selling emblazoned with the new moniker appear to be a big hit among the movers and shakers in the community — you might see me wearing one when I'm on a Black River Trail jog.
Times managing editor Bob Gorman sent the picture you see here of his wife, Bunny. She's also added to her wardrobe.
"We had a 60th birthday party for my wife, Bunny, this weekend and someone decided to give her a gag gift. But actually, it is a nice, quality shirt, which the mayor autographed. Now my wife and her friends plan to drop by Fort Pearl to see if they can score a free drink," Mr. Gorman says. "At any rate, the mayor now knows he has an extremely attractive, charming and delightful woman wearing a 'Mayor’s Bar' shirt around town."
At last, a pink T-shirt detente in the decades-long Gorman-Graham feud.
