Volunteers recognized by Fort Drum

FORT DRUM — A Watertown resident was named the Installation Volunteer of the Year last week.

George Barton, recognized at a ceremony held April 19 on post, has volunteered more than 370 hours with the USO Fort Drum. Mr. Barton has been involved in several projects, including leading the effort to welcome soldiers returning from deployment and advocating for the USO in the region.

Mr. Barton has served previously in the Air Force and the U.S. Customs Department. He also served with the USO at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.

Others recognized by the post include Heather Williams, who was named the post’s Youth Volunteer of the Year, and Alfred Weissman, who won the post’s Man of the Mountain award.
