Francis powers Massena girls lacrosse past Potsdam

POTSDAM — Erin Francis scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead the Massena girls lacrosse team to a 16-7 win over Potsdam in a Northern Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

Megan Poupore also scored five goals and Shaydi Oakes tallied three for the Red Raiders (9-1 overall, 8-0 division). Emma Dupree, Steffanie Premo and Bethany Rogers scored Massena’s other goals.

Keeley Rice led Potsdam (4-5, 4-3) with six goals. Kalie Grant scored the other goal for the Sandstoners.

NORTHWOOD PREP 8, HEUVELTON 7

Erin Brand and Hallie Kent both scored three goals as Lake Placid’s Northwood Prep defeated the Bulldogs (2-8) in a nonleague contest in Heuvelton.

Jackie Sovie scored five goals for the Bulldogs and Aliza Armstrong and Emilie Ross each scored once.

BOYS LACROSSE

POTSDAM 11, MASSENA 7

Potsdam (6-4, 5-3) opened with a five-goal first quarter and went on to knock off the Red Raiders in Massena.

Cody Compeau and Nate Carey each scored three goals for the Sandstoners. Sam Miller, A.J. Landi, Kyle Kingsley, Brian Thomas and Kyle Grant added single goals.

Rhoades Tarbell paced Massena (6-4, 4-4) with four goals and one assist. Grayson Phillips scored twice and Tyler Simms added another goal.

CANTON 14, OFA 2

Jesse Gilbert led Canton (8-2, 8-1) with four goals while Mike Matthews, Cody Moore and Peyton VanBibber each scored twice in a win over the Blue Devils in Ogdensburg.

Jake Garrison and Trey Lawrence scored for the Blue Devils (3-8, 2-7).

ST. LAWRENCE 16, COLTOn-PIERREPONT 1

Dalton Lottie scored six goals as the Larries routed Colton-Pierrepont (0-10, 0-8) in Brasher Falls.

Marshall Burninghausen scored three goals while Nate Cole and Styles Arquiett added two goals for SLC (6-2, 5-2). Lukas Arquiett, Cody Burns and Brody Simmons also scored for the Larries. Jake Angleberger scored the only goal for the Colts.

SALMON RIVER 24, SARANAC LAKE 2

Seth Oakes, Austin Cavender, Lakota Square and Lawrence Jock each scored three goals to help Salmon River rout the Red Storm (1-6) in Fort Covington.

Dalston Day, Colby King, Oakley Thomas and Braiden Sunday each scored twice for Salmon River (6-0). Ky Tarbell, Kyle Lewis, Ryan Thomas and Rowen Lazoe also scored.

BASEBALL

MASSENA 5-10, GOUVERNEUR 2-2

Avery Barney had two hits in each game as the Red Raiders swept Gouverneur (1-4, 0-3) in a Central Division doubleheader in Massena.

Joey LaBelle also had two hits for Massena (7-1, 4-0) in the opener. Jake Ward and Troy Barnes each had two hits in game two for Massena.

HARRISVILLE 8, EDWARDS-KNOX 1

Justin Hartle had two hits, including a home run, to lead the Pirates past Edwards-Knox (1-3) in a nonleague game in Harrisville.

Jason Ripley and Henry Garbrecht both had three hits for the Pirates (2-4). Kaden Dandrow went 2-for-3 for the Cougars.

CHATEAUGAY 8, LISBON 2

Joe McGillicuddy struck out 15 as Chateaugay knocked off the Golden Knights (2-3) in a nonleague game in Lisbon.

Corey Hill had a triple and single for the Bulldogs (1-3).

WATERTOWN 1, S. JEFFERSON 0

Kyle Simmons struck out nine in a three-hit shutout as Watertown blanked South Jefferson in a Frontier League crossover game in Adams.

SOFTBALL

HEUVELTON 14, MORRISTOWN 2

Alexis Sawyer went 3-for-5, including a three-run homer, and drove in seven runs as Heuvelton routed the Green Rockets (1-3, 1-2) in a West Division game in Heuvelton.

Hannah Thornhill went 4-for-5 for Heuvelton (6-1, 4-0) while Rachel Thornhill and Jen Cougler each produced two hits. Alexis Weidner struck out 10 for Heuvelton.

ST. LAWRENCE 13-14, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 5-1

Ashley Thayer struck out 11 in the second game of a North Division doubleheader to lead the Larries to a sweep of Norwood-Norfolk (2-5, 0-4) in Brasher Falls.

Shakiah Robertson and Haley Agens each had two hits in the opening game for the Larries (8-1, 3-1). Noel Rufa went 4-for-4 in game two and Brandi Thomas and Haley Agens each had three hits.

Courtney Harvey had two hits in the opener for the Flyers.

MASSENA 6, GOUVERNEUR 3

Sierra Streeter struck out 12 as Massena defeated the Wildcats (1-7, 1-5) in a Central Division contest in Gouverneur.

Bailey Dillabough doubled and singled twice for Massena (5-1, 2-0). Chelsea Streeter tripled and double and Kharlene Garrow singled three times.

Nictoria Bates had two hits, including a double, for Gouverneur.

HARRISVILLE 12, EDWARDS-KNOX 11

Hunter Fowler drove in two runs with a singled in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Pirates (3-4) past Edwards-Knox in a nonleague game in Harrisville.

Georgi Baker homered and singled twice while Sarah Hewitt, Hannah Weaver and Fowler each produced two hits.

Janna Fountain and Claire Davis singled three times for the Cougars (1-5). Mercedes Mackin added two hits.

CHATEAUGAY 12, LISBON 1

Courtney Boyea struck out 12 and scattered four hits as Chateaugay knocked off the Golden Knights (0-6) in a nonleague game in Lisbon.

Boyea also had three hits for the Bulldogs (5-0). Holly Zeldenrust doubled and singled twice for Chateaugay and Shelby Coleman had three hits. Natali Pitts had two hits for Lisbon.
