A funeral mass for Frederick Wearne will be 10 am Saturday, June 23rd at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating. Entombment will follow in the Glenwood Mausoleum. Calling hours are Friday, June 22nd from 5 pm – 7 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St.

Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation, 668 Thompson St., Watertown, NY 13601.

Mr. Wearne, 89, of Rt 12, Watertown, passed away Thursday June 14th at University Hospital in Syracuse.

He was born in Watertown, December 21, 1922, one of 11 children to Samuel and Myrtle Sullivan Wearne, and was educated in Watertown schools. Mr. Wearne went to work at the New York Air Brake following his schooling. He left the Air Brake to serve with the US Army during WW II, in the Northern France, Normandy and Rhineland Theatres, from January of 1943 to November of 1945.

Following his honorable discharge he returned to Watertown, going back to work at the New York Air Brake Co. as a moulder, retiring in 1985 after 45 years of service.

Frederick married Carmen Pelletier October 18, 1947. Mrs. Wearne died February 16, 2011.

Mr. Wearne was a communicant of Holy Family and Sacred Heart Church’s, the Elks, Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the American Legion. He was a former member of the Town of Watertown VFD and the Town Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, cross country skiing. He was an avid reader and history buff. Fred enjoyed conversation with everyone he met.

Fred is survived by two sons, Michael and Patrick, both of Watertown. Two daughters, Chantel Davis, Schenectady; Denise (David) Johannessen, Watertown. 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One sister Carolyn (John) Aberle, WA. Many nieces and nephews. Five brothers, William, George, James, Samuel, Richard and an infant, and three sisters, Helen, Marion, and Betty Jane predeceased him.
