Harald Knudsen died on 09 May, 2012 at the age of 57 after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform 9 months previously.
Harald was born in Kristiansand, Norway on 23 October 1953 to Ester and Harald Knudsen. He emigrated from Norway to New Jersey (USA) with his family when he was 4 years old. He lived and attended schools in West New York, NJ. Later in life he returned to school and graduated from SUNY Canton and, with honours, from St. Lawrence University.
Harald spent most of his life as a carpenter and after graduating college he achieved his dream of becoming a teacher. He primarily taught English as a Second Language; in Hiiumaa, Estonia while in the Peace Corps and then at the Wangle School in Litomerice, Czech Republic.
Harald loved travelling and started his lifelong adventures by hitchhiking through France right after graduating from Memorial High School. He spent time living, studying, travelling and working in numerous States in the USA and throughout Eastern, Western Europe and South America. Among his favorites were Rome, Dresden, Berlin, Krakow, Tallinn, London, Peru and Norway.
Harald will be missed by his many friends all over the world and especially by his fellow Peace Corps family.
Harald is survived by his sister Bjorg K. Cunningham (Canton, NY), brother Ode Knudsen (Salem, NY) and his nephew Sean Cunningham (North Smithfield, RI)
