Watertown police allege that a city man smashed a ceiling lamp glass cover during a domestic fight early Wednesday, nearly showering a sleeping 2-year-old boy with flying shards.

John S. Oregon, 23, of 509 Stone St., was arrested at 1:50 a.m. on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal mischief and harassment. He was detained for arraignment in City Court.

Police said the child was sleeping in a bed about three feet from the light, and glass landed near him.

Mr. Oregon also slapped the child’s mother, Michaela A. Cowles, same address, in the face, police alleged.
