A bill that would restore pension credits for 12 Jefferson County residents has passed the state Assembly, said its sponsor, Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa.
Late last week, the bill's fate was unknown due to union opposition, but a change in the effective date helped placate its opposition.
Twelve employees of Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency sub-organizataions lost their pension benefits earlier this year owing to a dispute over their legal status.
The bill will likely be voted on in the state Senate tomorrow, where it will also need to pass.
