MASSENA - A male in his 20s from outside St. Lawrence County is being treated for serious injuries to his face and throat following an apparent beating Wednesday morning.
Police said they responded to a call at 7 a.m. that there was a man covered in blood on East Orvis Street near Frenchies Ford.
Massena Village Police Chief Timmy J. Currier said that man was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital, where he was reportedly listed in serious condition and expected to be transferred to the Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.
Police did confirm they are looking for a vehicle that was reportedly stolen in connection with the incident, a red 2001 Oldsmobile Alero bearing the license tag FMC 1182.
Mr. Currier confirmed police believe there were three African American male assailants and that the incident could be drug related. We are pursuing that angle, he said.
Initial police radio transmissions reported the case as a strong armed robbery and suggested a gun had been displayed during the incident.
Mr. Currier said the police investigation is continuing into the incident.
