CANTON A man accused of kidnapping and raping a Canton woman in June 2011 pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court to first-degree rape in an agreement reached Wednesday.
Sentencing for Joshua J. Lake, 29, of 56 Post Road, is Aug. 6. Judge Jerome J. Richards will consider between 11 and 19˝ years of jail time, which will be supplemented by 20 years of post-release supervision, said District Attorney Nicole Duvé.
Lake pleaded guilty during jury selection on the trials first day.
In June 2011, the victim called the 911 center to report she had been held overnight, beaten and sexually abused at Lakes home, from which she managed to escape. Lake was arrested on June 20, 2011.
The victim was supportive of the plea bargain, which will allow her to avoid painful testimony in court, said Ms. Duve.
Lake was charged with three counts of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.
