Leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee want the U.S. Supreme Court to allow live television coverage when the court delivers its opinion on President Barack Obama’s health care law.

Both Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said that the case is as important as any in recent memory. They wrote a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts, pointing out the great interest in the case. Since the decision could well affect every American, it makes sense that more than just a few onlookers in the court’s limited public seating should be able to view the historic moment.

News organizations previously asked the court to allow cameras in the courtroom for the decision.

The court should allow it.
