POTSDAM Village residents spoke out in favor of the village boards decision to create a four-way stop at Main and Cedar streets.
The board unanimously approved the local law allowing the installation of the sign at a meeting Monday.
There has been concern about that intersection for a couple of years, Village Administrator David H. Fenton said.
Main Street meets Cedar Street at an angle, leading to visibility problems. Previous construction work attempted to ease the problem by straightening the roads, but accidents continued, Mr. Fenton said.
Village residents who live near the intersection attended the meeting to share their worries about the lack of safety at the intersection. Residents said drivers often will speed through the intersection at well over the 30-mph limit.
The signs are expected to be up within a month.
