Watertown- Jean Marie Townsend, 98, W. Main Street, passed away Tuesday at the Samaritan Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 11 am Friday, June 29, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will follow in North Watertown Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, June 28th from 4 pm - 7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, 321 Prospect Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
She was born in Ontario, Canada, November 2, 1913, a daughter of Gordon and Ethel Mott. She came to the U.S. with her parents at a young age. She married Harold Townsend December 10, 1934. Mr. Townsend died May 1, 1976.
Mrs. Townsend was a crossing guard at Meade Street School for over 20 years. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church, Watertown. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts, and spending time at the cottage on Westminster Park, Wellesley Island.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Kirch, Watertown; Irene Timmerman, Limerick. 6 grandchildren, David Newman and fiancée Mary Kinne, Watertown; Tina (John) Rumble, Watertown; Cindy (Frank) Trombley, Virginia; Lori (Robert) Cole, Watertown; Billy Newman, Watertown; Steve Newman, Watertown. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley J. Newman, on September 27, 2005; 2 brothers, Lawson and Bill Mott; and a sister, Mary Peer.
