Dennis I. Gibbs of Flager Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on June 16 at the age of 94. He was born in Dorset Co. England, on June 12, 1918 to his parents Thomas and Helen Gibbs. He and his family moved to the Adams area in 1920.
He married the love of his life, Marie in 1941. Dennis and Marie were happily married for 60 years until her passing in 2001. Together, they raised their family in Adams until 1981, when they moved to Florida.
He joined the Army in 1940 and served until December 25, 1945. While serving his country, he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant and earned the Bronze Star.
He always had a passion for work, spending most of his professional career as owner and operator of Gibbs and MacIlvennie, Chevrolet and Olds in Adams until retiring in 1981.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening, and carpentry.
He was a wonderful husband, dad and granddad.
His sincere interest and passion for others allowed him to be friends to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all.
He was predeceased by his wife Marie and son David.
Dennis Gibbs is survived by four children: Janet (Gary) Tubolino of Adams NY and Denise (Mark) Palmer, Thomas (Linda) Gibbs and Robert (Nancy) Gibbs and daughter-in-law Judy (David) Gibbs. A funeral will be held at The Emmanual Episcapal Church in Adams NY on July 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
A Military Honors service will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Adams NY.
