Walter smashes two homers to power Wizards
ELMIRA Donald Walter slugged two home runs and drove in three runs to power the Watertown Wizards past the Elmira Pioneers, 12-2, on Wednesday at Dunn Field to halt their losing skid in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
Cole Gleason went 3-for-4, including a double, and drove in a run for the Wizards (7-11), who won for the first time in four games and improved to 5-2 on the road, including a 3-0 mark at Elmira.
Left-hander Alex Solis scattered eight hits, striking out six and walking only one over six innings to earn the win.
Brandon Cipolla (two doubles), Riley Norton (triple) and Derek Hagy contributed two hits each for the Wizards. Walter, who hit a lead-off home run and added another shot in the third, has four home runs over his past four games.
Aaron Nardone homered and singled for last-place Elmira (6-13).
Watertown plays at Oneonta tonight and returns to host first-place Amsterdam on Friday at 7 p.m. on fireworks night, which will follow the game at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
