CANTON The Yoga Loft is moving from its home of four years above the Blackbird Cafe to part of a large unused Canton Day Care room at United Helpers Maplewood campus on State Street Road.
Its a big space were going to make nicer, Yoga Loft board President Patrice P. LeClerc said. Its slightly bigger than what we have now.
The Yoga Loft began looking for a place after the Blackbirds owners decided they wanted to take over the second floor space at 107½ Main St. for their business.
The Yoga Loft will rent about 5,000 square feet of an unfinished multipurpose room at Canton Day Care, 205 State Street Road, that may be used eventually for the day care to expand its preschool and school-age programs.
Its a possibility for the future, Canton Day Care Director Nancy J. Addison said. The room is undeveloped space upstairs. The Yoga Loft is only taking about a quarter of it. Its like a warehouse. Were looking to lease the rest of the space.
The Yoga Loft will have a closing ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blackbird after the conclusion of its usual community yoga class, then pack up for the move.
Classes will resume July 14, although the organizations yoga in the park, which is free courtesy of North Country Savings Bank, will continue as usual from 11 a.m. to noon Fridays in the village park.
The Canton Day Care space includes bathrooms and an elevator. It also provides an opportunity for the Yoga Loft to expand the programs it has for children and senior citizens, Ms. LeClerc said. The lease with Canton Day Care is for one year.
The Yoga Loft has offered classes in Canton since 1999.
