In my travels about the northeastern and northwestern United States, I have read newspapers at every point. The Watertown Daily Times compares very well with all of them for its news coverage, editorial balance and features.
Which is why I was surprised to see no mention in this border newspaper on Sunday, July 1, regarding Canada Day. The four British Colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario confederated on July 1, 1867, to form the self-governing Dominion of Canada. July 1 is the birthday of our neighbor, closest ally and biggest trading partner. Surely worth more than passing recognition on its national day.
And by the way, the previous Sunday was Quebecs festival day of St. John Baptiste.
