OGDENSBURG The Frederic Remington Art Museum will host its first community picnic today, with food, entertainment, prizes and more.
We wanted to reach out to the community and find a way to bring people to the museum, shop manager Stephanie M. Billington said. Were kind of a hidden gem.
The picnic, which will include barbecue catered by Parker Piercey, of PCP-BBQ Catering, is open to the public, with serving beginning at 4 p.m.
In addition to the food, Ms. Billington said, the event will feature live entertainment with the Lime Hollow Boys and His and Hers. Guests also will be able to enjoy a 10 percent discount in the museum gift shop during the event.
Ms. Billington said the barbecue will be held rain or shine, although shes got her fingers crossed for good weather.
Outdoor and indoor seating will be available, she said. We will be prepared for the weather.
There also will be two drawings, with a $250 Remington print being given away as an adult prize and a backpack filled with activities and games as a childrens prize.
Anyone who comes in and gets a meal will automatically be entered in the drawing, Ms. Billington said.
The museum also will be offering two guided tours during the event, at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
People really enjoy those, she said.
Admission to the event, which includes the meal, is $15 per person, with children 10 and younger eating for free. A special discount price of $50 is available for families of four.
All proceeds from the event, which is being sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, will benefit the museums restoration efforts.
We have quite a few projects going on to try and restore the museum and were hoping this will help, Ms. Billington said.
