Gregory A. Marsala, 61, of Watertown, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay where he had been a patient since June 27.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown, on Sunday, July 15, from 5 - 8PM with a wake service by Rev. Steven Murray, Holy Family Church, at 6:30PM. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery will be at the familys convenience.
Greg was born in Watertown on April 13, 1951, son of Charles J. and Edith E. Ouderkirk Marsala, Jr. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1969 and received his Associates degree from Jefferson Community College.
He was the parts manager for the family business, State Street Body Works, Inc., for many years, and later traveled extensively throughout the US working various jobs. He hunted in his earlier years with his father and was a member of the Out-Of-Fit Hunting Club. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, skiing, and was an avid pool player. He also volunteered Sundays at the reception desk at Samaritan Medical Center and on Thursdays in the gift shop at Samaritan Keep Home in his later years.
Greg had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He had the type of personality, that if you knew him, you couldnt help but like him. Throughout his adult life, no matter what he was going through, Greg was always a gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Besides his mother, Edith E. Edie, of Watertown, Greg is survived by his two brothers, David G. Marsala and wife, Debra R., and Kris D. Marsala and Rhonda M. Foote, all of Watertown; his sister, Diane L. Brennan and husband, David P., Williamsville; one aunt and her husband; three nephews, five nieces, three great nephews, and three great nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Charles J. Marsala, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Cynthia A. Marsala, as well as maternal and paternal grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in his name to either Credo Foundation Scholarsip Fund, 595 W. Main St., or to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., both in Watertown, NY 13601.
