Massena native Andy Draper has decided to retire as a professional baseball umpire.
Draper, who recently married, has been umpiring professionally since 2010 and was promoted to the Class A California League in June. He previously worked in the short-season Class A New York-Penn League, and full-season Class A South Atlantic League.
Draper still plans to call high school games in the area, as he has since 2006, and plans to pursue college umpiring.
The 27-year-old was a first baseman on Massenas 2001 Class A state championship baseball team, and was a teacher at St. Regis Falls prior to his professional umpiring career.
