MASSENA - Next year when the Massena Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual block dance and car show the venue may be expanded to accommodate additional vendors and vehicles.
We had between 125 and 130 cars, trucks and motorcycles on display, Executive Director Michael J. Gleason said. Weve ran out of room. If we get any bigger ,were going to have to use other streets.
And thats a thought that Mr. Gleason said has already crossed his mind.
We are considering it, he said.
The party currently uses a stretch of Main Street from East Orvis Street to Andrews Street.
They were lined up along both sides of the street and in some of the side parking lots, he said, adding several vendors also set up shop in the town hall parking lot.
There was a 50/50, raffles and Chinese auction, he said. There was a lot going on.
Entertainment for the event was provided by Bruce LaShomb and the Boys as well as Cubby T. Clown.
It was packed down here all night, he said, adding people were waiting to get in as early as 3 p.m.
The street was closed starting at 4 p.m., for the party which started at 5 p.m. and ran to 9 p.m.
The timing of this years event, which coincided with several class reunions also helped.
There were a lot of class reunions that weekend so it worked out well, he said. It brought out people from all over.
This years block dance was the 15th annual event, and Mr. Gleason said plans are already under way for next year.
Thats one of our big events every summer, he said.
Mr. Gleason also said he wanted to thank all of the volunteers who help to make the block party and their other events possible.
Without them we couldnt do an event like this, he said, adding approximately 25 volunteers helped out at the event.
