Children who request donations for the Childrens Miracle Network of Northern New York at Samaritan Medical Center in lieu of birthday gifts for themselves will be recognized by the agency for their philanthropy.
Executive Director Jocelyn D. Mejias said shes pleased to see north country children doing good deeds for their peers.
Children who seek donations for the local CMN affiliate instead of gifts will be honored by the agency at the end of the year and their names will be put on a wall in the hospital, 830 Washington St.
Mrs. Mejias said every dollar stays within Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties to help sick or injured children.
The national Childrens Miracle Network is pushing the effort with what it calls the Peter Pan Birthday Club. Enrollees will receive a free party pack with donation envelopes, thank you cards and party favors. Applications may be filled out online or obtained by calling the CMN office, 785-4503.
After the party, parents can call the local CMN office to arrange delivery of the donation. Mrs. Mejias said if parents register their child as a national Peter Pan Birthday Club member, the Peter Pan Childrens Fund will make an additional $100 donation in that childs name to the local CMN affiliate.
