Four former champions were eliminated Wednesday as the 2012 City Mens Golf Championships got down to the final eight players.
Four-time champion John Bufalini defeated 2004 winner Toby Draper 2 and 1 in the final championship flight second-round match at the Watertown Golf Club.
Earlier in the day, 2009 champion James Ambrose was beaten by Brian Phillips 4 and 3, 2010 champ Tyler Woodward fell 5 and 4 to Paul Ahlgrim and Adam Brown, who won in 2005, was knocked off 4 and 2 by Chris Denesha.
The following quarterfinal pairings include Bufalini against Jason Sweeney (1:40 p.m. today); 11-time champion Bob Hughes versus 2003 winner and last years runner-up, Joe Tufo (3:20 p.m. Friday); Brian Phillips against Ahlgrim; and Denesa versus Michael Burgess (9:30 a.m. Friday).
The semifinals are Saturday morning and the 36-hole finale is on Sunday.
