CANTON - Firefighters say they are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a camp Sunday night on County Route 27 in the town of Canton.

Police said no occupants were in the camp when the fire at a camp owned by Martin Rivers at 157 County Route 27 when the fire was reported at 9:12 p.m.

Canton Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, and firefighters from Pierrepont, Pyrites, Russell and West Potsdam were on standby,

The camp was declared a total loss, and a cat died in the fire.
