The Adirondacks and the surrounding region are at high fire danger levels, according to a warning issued by state Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers.

Recent hot, dry weather has created a condition that allows wildfires to start easily. Three fires in the Adirondacks, one started by an unattended campfire, already have burned eight acres of wild lands.

The DEC advises campers to be cautious. It suggests:

■ Using existing campfire rings and keeping fires small,

■ Scraping away any burnable material within a 10-foot diameter circle,

■ Drowning the fire with water and

■ Using a cooking stove instead of a campfire.

The DEC also advises caution with barbecue grills.
