CANTON An autopsy has revealed more information about the death of former Canton Supervisor Frank J. Norton, 85, in a car accident.
According to information from the autopsy, performed Sunday morning at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, by Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone, Jefferson County medical examiner, Mr. Norton died of multiple internal injuries suffered during the accident.
Mr. Norton, Route 68, died after losing control of his car on West Main Street at 4 p.m. Saturday. The car flipped several times and hit a small tree before landing in the driveway of the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services building, according to the Canton Police Department.
Mr. Norton was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by St. Lawrence County Coroner James M. Sienkiewycz.
Although he had several pre-existing health conditions, it does not appear that any of those led to him losing control of the car, according to the autopsy report.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Canton Police Department, which says speed could have been a factor.
