James F. Greene, 78, Weaver Rd., Watertown, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012, at his home.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown, on Tuesday, July 24, from 4 - 7PM. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 25, at 10AM with Rev. Steven Murray, Holy Family Church, officiating with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Greene was born in Port Henry on February 28, 1934, son of James G. and Leona Tracy Greene. He attended school in Moriah.

On July 17, 1954 he married Carolyn King in Crown Point.

He worked as a miner in Mineville and Tahaws, both in NY, Liberia in W. Africa, and in Riverside, CA. He then began his career with the US Bureau of Mines for the federal government, retiring as a Federal Mine Inspector. He had also served in the US Army from 1956 - 1958 and 1961 - 1962.

Jim was a member of Elks Lodge #496, VFW Post 1400, Knights of Columbus Council 256, and American Legion Post 61, all in Watertown. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He and his wife spent twelve winters in Myrtle Beach after his retirement, and he enjoyed golf and was an avid NY Yankees fan.

Besides his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his four children, Deborah Martin and husband, Steven, N. Bangor, Timothy Greene and companion, Lynn Willer, Massena, Daniel Greene and wife, MaryKay, Copenhagen, and Joseph Greene, Watertown; nine grandchildren; sister, Patsy Provost and husband, Dick, Willsboro; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Madelyn King, Klamoth Falls, OR. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Aaron Greene.

Donations in his name may be made to either Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., or Holy Family Church, 129 Winthrop St., both in Watertown, NY 13601.
