The 10th annual War of 1812 Weekend will be presented Aug. 3 through 5 in Sackets Harbor.
Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance will host the 2012 bicentennial event featuring demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Aug. 4 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5.
Visitors can watch military formations and drills, see artillery and tactical demonstrations, listen to military music, shop for period merchandise and crafts, take part in 19th century childrens games, and watch both land and sea battle tactics.
Elsewhere, the U.S. Coast Guard is planning a series of events around the Great Lakes in commemmoration of the War of 1812 bicentennial.
Programs are planned in Milwaukee on Aug. 8 through 13; Chicago, Aug. 14 through 20; Toledo, Ohio, Aug. 23 through 27; Cleveland, Aug. 27 through Sept. 4; Detroit, Sept. 4 through 10 and Buffalo, Sept 11 to 17.
The Coast Guard says events will vary at each port, but will include concerts by the Coast Guard Dixieland Band, performances by the Coast Guard Color Guard and Silent Drill Team, and public tours of Coast Guard cutters.
