Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo will tap the top Democrat in Jefferson County to serve as the superintendent of the Dulles State Office Building, according to multiple sources.
Sean M. Hennessey, the Democratic Party chairman, is expected to be named to the post later this week.
The post opened in April when David R. Steyer was fired from the job.
The 11-story Dulles Building, on Washington Street, serves as the nexus of state government in Watertown and the north country. It houses two state legislators, numerous state departments and hundreds of state employees.
Mr. Hennessey, who is also the county Board of Elections commissioner, could not be reached to comment Tuesday evening. Mr. Cuomos office did not immediately respond to a request for comment after 8 p.m.
