Geraldine Edna (Bombard) Hazen passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Geraldine was born in Bangor on January 13, 1931, daughter to Wilbur and Florence (LaFleur) Bombard. She was one of eighteen children in the family. She attended Bangor then Brushton schools.

On May 25, 1947, she married Robert G. Hazen of Moira. Robert and Geraldine were about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. However, Robert predeceased her on May 7 of this year. Together they owned Valley-Haze Farms where she was very much a part of operating the dairy farm. When Robert went on construction to help pay the bills she took over the chores on the dairy farm. She ran the dairy farm and raised seven children while he was away on jobs. She loved the animals, from feeding the calves to milking the cows, to doing the fieldwork with the tractors.

She was active for many years in the FFA, the 4-H and Holstein Freisen Association. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star as a member at the Glenwood-Chalybeate-Elmcity-High Peaks #89 chapter in Brushton for about 55 years.

She is survived by her children Robert G. and Karen Hazen of Brushton, Bruce H. and Marilyn Hazen of Carthage, Barbara A. Hazen of Massena, Terry and Bonita (Hazen) Fefee of Brushton, Brett W. and Joanne Hazen of Burke and Brian J. Hazen and his fiance Andrea Lucey of Brushton.

She leaves behind grandchildren Robert S. Hazen, Troy K. Hazen, Heidi (Hazen) Robinson, Jennifer (Hazen) Girlee, Kevin Hazen, Leeann (Fefee) Pray, Jan (Fefee) Normile, Terri (Fefee) Chused, Mike Hoye, Dr. Barry Hazen, Megan Niles, Gabriel Susice, Blake Susice and eleven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister Rita Richards; sisters-in-law Helen Barney and Barbara Hazen a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Richard and Joyce Hazen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband Robert and her son Barry predeceased her. Also predeceasing Geraldine are her brothers Herbert, Warren, Merrill, Harold, Ernest, Bernard, Milton, Milford, Wilbur and Donald; sisters Pearle, Gertrude, Erma, Erla, Mildred, Genevieve and Betty; and numerous brother and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, August 3, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Glenwood-Chalybeate-Elmcity-High Peaks #89 order of the Eastern Star will meet as a body Friday at 12:45 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home.

The Funeral services will commence at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eleanor Bellows presiding. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson where Geraldine will rest beside her beloved husband Robert.

Expression of one’s sympathy may be made to the Moira Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Inc. or the St. Regis Falls Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
