LOWVILLE The Lowville Academy and Central School board has appointed elementary school Principal Cheryl R. Steckly as the districts interim superintendent.
She will replace Kenneth J. McAuliffe, who is retiring at the end of August after 32 years as a school administrator, the last 11 as superintendent.
The board, in a statement issued Friday, said Mrs. Steckly won a unanimous vote that made her appointment effective Aug. 30. She is no stranger to the district, the board said, having begun her teaching career at Lowville in 1984. She later taught for four years in Oregon before returning to Lowville Academy.
